Doggy Delight
Excited yips, the 3 o’clock pips,
Eager eyes, tennis-ball surprise,
Scampering paws, expectant jaws,
Open door, a bolt into the fore,
The cool crisp air, breathed without care,
The deep green grass, quivers as I pass.
Into the sky, the bright green blob doth fly,
A blur of fur, barks and yaps slur,
A frenzied pursuit, of tennis ball loot,
Grass sent flying, groundsman sighing,
Divots of earth, doggy mirth,
Slavering jaws, muddy paws.
Smiling faces, contrail traces,
Panting hard, catches 3 starred,
Conifers swaying, trodden earth baying,
Still going strong, won’t be light for long,
Slower now, but Holy Cow!
Appreciative licks, canine kicks.
Time to go inside, boredom defied,
Bedraggled fur, “Job done” I infer,
Hanging tongue, slumber won’t be long
Snoozing deeply, happiness comes cheaply.
