"Discordant Melody" and "Jazz"

Two poems this time.  "Discordant Melody" was written years ago.  "Jazz" was written just now after finishing "La La Land."  Enjoy!

Discordant Melody

I started with a triad,
Then you added a seventh.
What were you thinking?
You ruined my chord.
I'd rather have a thirteenth,
Or even a dropped fifth,
But your discordant seventh
Is straining my peace.
I have no problems with sus fours,
I see them every day,
I'd even give way to an octave
Were you inclined to give me that.
But this seventh you presented
Is nothing short of horrid.
Take it away, please,
And augment this chord!

Jazz

The temper of the moment
Catches on everything.
Every note a melody,
Every chord a syntax.
One step out of place
Opens vistas unparalleled,
Dancing in the lights.

Pulsing with power,
Vibrato, contralto;
Mesmerized with glances
That riff arpeggiately –
Fingers flying up and down
The length of her legs,
Arms out, hair flying.

Round and round
The smoky air churns.
The choke of ash another
Layer in the night.
Puff, two three,
Blow, two three.
Columbian, Cuban, Moroccan.

Each blistering light
Flashing to the tempo,
Catches the eyes;
The glint, the chrome,
Every one a metronome
Lase and Blaze
Across the crowded room.

And you and I
Tapping our toes,
Feeling it shiver
Through the core of
Our prescience:
We know what’s coming,
And we jive!
