Shot
Shot
Indestructable, indomitable, a zealous might propelled by self power,
a vigour infinite
Charging forward, nothing stood in my way
A beating heart, pulsating in splendour
Lungs bellowing air, snorting and gaspiing for even more air
Hurtling forward, an express, a velocity unparalleled
Then a piercing strike
a jolt of searing pain, slammed into my back
and blew out my guts and innards
I was hit, caught it, bought it
No not me
No I yelled, tumbled forward into hardened dust
spewing blood
My eyes welled out not with sweet tears but blinding blood
My head reeled, spinning out of control
then a blinding darkness, a chorus of shouts
A distant explosion renewed some sense of awareness
as I lay face down
doomed
stricken and out
Then voices arrived with urgent pleas; came closer to me
A hand caressed my forehead as I was turned toward the blistering sun
An injection passed unnoticed
I was being wrapped, round and round
I rattled and choked, unable to speak
I was not alone
I felt a warmth, a concern, a love even.
A voice whispered in my ear.
An inner peace enveloped my being, overcoming fear
blotting out noise, anesthetising pain.
A field, radiant and drenched in sunlight,
full of flowers was laid out before me
I felt a rising above all else
A new dawn emerged, ephemeral sounds brought serene tranquility
then peace; no more, only peace........
