Our World
Our World
We have a planet of immeasureable immensity
Vibrant in its rich diversity
Intimately carved and intricately balanced
Flora and fauna lavishly abound
Oceans and mountains full of majesty and awe
Deserts, jungles and ice capped poles
People of different races and tongues
Vegetables, fruits and more besides
Air, wind, fire in one glorious globe
A wonder to sit and behold
Treasures of scientific discovery
Birds and animals do its surface inhabit
Forests, valleys, islands and cascades
Arid and fertile plains do conceal
Resources beneath a crust to yeild
Seasons, rain and sultry heat
Icy temperatures and blizzards to beat
Amidst soft breezes and a morning dew
This planet set in a night of glistening stars
An orb in a galaxy richly placed
Self sufficient, a veritable store
From food which is cooked or raw
Mankind controls this terrestial realm
His effervesence brings forth Art, Music, Literature and Theatre
A cultural paradise to explore
The custodians of a treasure trove
He loves, cares and tills the earth
Then to survive, to create, invent and then to destroy
Why in the midst of all this wonder
does he feel the need to slaughter and to plunder

Well, Keith, I can't exactly speak for everyone, but the answer you seek may be in the very diversity of which you've written. After all, many seek to destroy whatever they can't control.
But, as Harry says, there are many of us who are thankful to enjoy the beauty of many, many things that are neither like us nor of us.
