Poets Inua Ellams, Maria Ferguson, Anthony Anaxagorou, Bridget Minamore, Omar Bynon, Ruth Sutoyé, Lionheart, Belinda Zhawi, Emmanuel Sugo, and Theresa Lola will be taking part in an evening of hip hop poems and songs at Rich Mix in east London on 5 May. The Rhythm and Poetry Party, described as a “laid back, poetry-infused nostalgic house party”, will involve a succession of poets reading poems inspired by any aspect of hip hop culture, and a DJ playing two of the writer’s favourite songs.
