Nature´s Tunnel
Nature´s Tunnel
With scarcely a bend or dip it gradually climbed
upwards toward the distant village invisible as
a tunnel of trees, an arc of luscious green in summer
a cavern of powdery white in winter´s frozen landscape
it barred any view
Little traffic did flow along this forgotten thoroughfare
By car or cycle it was an adventure to take
a way never to grow tired of along its route
Years past it had been carpeted with asphalt
with no pavements, road signs or distractions
It drew one along with a strange invitation
for newcomers a tantalising fascination
The trees held at bay scenery and sound
nature´s tunnel led the onward way
Cars had to give way to one another
as walkers side stepped into the tunnel´s hedgerow
The branches met above the road
often touching and intermingling
Squirrels could occasionally be seen
scampering up oneside and down the other
The seasons gave it colour and magical spendour
and in so doing changed its character
but never its allure

Very vivid. Is it a real place? It sounds very real.
