Politicians
Politicians
Are they patriots or philanthropists
given to good works and the welfare of mankind?
Do they seek to change for the better
or is there some hidden agenda?
Politicians are a breed set apart
out for themselves from the very start
They preen themselves to receive acclaim
and fast enough to submit an expense claim
They become quite detached from us all
because they are now mighty and tall
They have a job which is handsomely paid
but do the coffers of the exchequer regularly raid
It requires no training or qualifications
other than to indulge in frequent misrepresentations
One can only but despise their gall
because their ambitions exclude us all
We often rush out to vote
as if someone had pushed the right note
They sit in parliament in the shade
quite immune from life´s tirade
The only people they represent
are the bigots and the unrepentant

To the Lancashire County Palatine Tourist Bard. Thank you for your comment. To respond to your staement one would probably need to take each politician on his or her own merits. I do not accept that all started out as philanthropists as there are far too many opportunists and self seekers to name. It is a profession which attracts many who thirst for personal acclaim and can find no other way of achieving this. More importantly those who clamour for such office are not required to possess any qualifications yet feel that they have some inherit right to determine the nation´s future. It is an interesting subject, which I am sure, will be an ongoing debate for many years to come. Thank you again for your comment. Keith
