Desert Sky

Driving in a roast red desert
Headlights staring into primeval dark
The untrammeled sky glorious

Above us a bridge of stars
Rivering between rocky horizons
At once near and so very far

Cricking my neck to see
I bounced around the back of the open jeep
Absorbing, amid the shudders, splendor

Star birth and death, worlds hidden by distance
Great glowing nebulae
Fat in the centre, a devouring black hole

Sounds like an awesome adventure Kim ? We went away once and saw the milky way in far more glory unexpectedly than we ever had when seeking it out. The kind of moments which keep us going ?

Thank you both for your kind comments.

We were at Wadi Rum, Jordan, in 1995. We slept several nights out in the desert. Lots of adventures, snakes, camels and empty space. I remember it all so vividly.

again, this is right up my street, or dark desert highway. Where were you?
