Cancer

It was great having cancer

All my family told me

They loved me

And often

Friends who'd been meaning to callĀ

Turned up with cake

and often

My inner voices decided to

Give me a break

And often

I started to spend time

Sitting and noticing and

When my oncologist eventually said

"You are well with no signs for concern"

I continued to sit and notice

The family assumed I knew

And I did

My friends thought I'd had enough cake

And I had

My inner voices had become accustomed

To giving me a break

So I here I am

And often

Of course, this is only one aspect of my experience (as with any poem), but it is one that was an un-looked for pleasant surprise and one that has really stayed with me. Hope all goes well for your sister.

I came to this after hearing that my sister has had to
face something similar with ongoing checks and treatment
to come. I'm grateful for the smile it provided via its
positive theme and would like to think she could say the
same.
