Starting Point
They told me,
life would its have ups and downs.
But lately its been winding down,
to more of a flat road.
I’m sure you’ve heard, the one you’re on so long,
you forget where you’re going, it goes on so slow.
Stories of,
great revelations, heart wrenching trials,
some wonderful epiphany.
Self-discovery and all of its battle scars.
They promised,
I would find myself in the chasms of my despair
and in the clouds of my soaring atmosphere.
And all because...
I witnessed,
the light in the eyes of a girl,
who had reached the peak of her mountain.
The darkness in the hushed chaos
of a family either distant or piercing.
They would shout and…
Sometimes all it would take
was a heartfelt prayer,
the moment the strings part entered a song.
And the torrential downpour
of feeling,
keeling over,
in humanity would come flooding back.
When the waters returned,
I clutched the corners of
the places in which a part of me changed.
And when my arms couldn’t stretch that far
I left the room and found a new place to start.
