What if
What if
And what if
And then what if
And he hadn’t
And she didn’t want to know
And he had never asked
And she had never said yes
And what if he had never spotted her in the first place
Or he had simply gone somewhere else
Like his usual place
What if he hadn’t missed his bus
And walked into a bar
where divas and devils
Congregate and coagulate
Away from the rain
Stuck together like so much dirty sticky glue
Rusty romancers and out of luck chancers
Absconders and highly seasoned responders
To any kind of action they can get
What if she had left work at her usual time
Instead of taking that last phone call
What if her eyes had been shut to all and everything
As she entered the room
shaking the rain out of her hair
And slumped in a corner
What if their eyes had not met
What if he hadn’t stated the obvious
Are you wet
What if she hadn’t laughed
What if on that day love had not existed
What if…..
