Blind Innocence

The cruelty of mankind
is to be blind to innocence.
When the streets run red,
some awaken to the pain,
but others stay
cold, hard.
The beauty of humanity
is strangled by hands
fumbling with knowledge,
minds refusing to open,
and some see
while others stay
blind, ignorant.
Shattered lives hold these streets,
innocence lost under headlights,
and pieces of them
cut us deep.
How can we be so cold?
The jury is still out,
and the gavel rests
alone under dust.
And some know
what we've done,
and others will
never accept responsibility.
And the cruelty of mankind
is being blind to innocence.

This has so much potential, I think, but seems rather scattered without a clear goal. Perhaps a more cohesive organisation of the lines would harness the thoughts, make them more impactive. To be honest, I don't see why you need an artificially manipulated title- the subject is no joke.
