Morning Thought

entry picture

More snow just when we were

looking to get on with our lives,

now the pipes have frozen

and I spend the morning

drinking coffee in the kitchen

watching a blackbird

pecking through the drifting snow

of the courtyard

as if looking for something lost.

There's an emptiness I can't shift

and a dissatisfaction that says

when I'm working I should be relaxing

and when I'm relaxing

it feels like a type of death.

There's only relief in a realization that says

I will never overcome such thoughts,

better instead to drink the coffee

and watch the snow fall,

beautiful as it is momentarily

blanking everything out.

thanks all. Loved that Kate Bush video, it's a great subtle poetic album.

Yes looks like the recent snow has got me thinking- and moving on at least to some day time poems!

well it never quite materialised in my part of the UK Tom but I've done plenty of sitting and watching and pondering - actually I do a lot of that with or without snow! I see you've moved on to morning poems from the night ones?! Good stuff. Col.

A nice sense of reverie of the white world. It is good to test ourselves and as you say sample the possibilities, like the seduction of a white duvet.

much enjoyed this one Tom.
