SEEING THINGS FROM THE OTHER SIDE

Everyone waits their turn to be checked.

Newly arrived: Ken Dodd and Stephen Hawking

now they're talking.

No obvious impediments on the mental level.

Ken has observed Stephen's prediction

that the universe will come to grief,

to be snuffed out like a magician's trick.

Not to be blinded by science he remarks:

"Never mind, this present place seems very nice,

and how tickled I am not to be stuck in dressing rooms.

I can't imagine Blackpool Tower

without the benefit of electric power."

Stephen, already won over by Doddy's light fantastic

confides: "I can't imagine a universe without relying

on formulae, how sad is that?

who knows what the future brings,

but it's still one of my favourite things."

Having stood the tests of earthly time

they dissolve in helpless laughter

at the idea of the great hereafter.

Thanks you Suki and Col. for your valued comments. I wanted to take the disparate characters as perceived and try to inject common ground - apart from them both being on the same side as it were. Col: You make a good point about dissension in the ranks. I think humorous observations can unsettle, but there has to be an acceptance of the far fetched within the framework of everyday experience. Otherwise, forget the whole thing and go back to mental lego. This would have been an audio too far i'm afraid. I could have slanted the poem to the religious accept, but that would have stirred things up perhaps. How about the Hawk being a tour guide for the Milky Way?

Correct Suki, a little like Michael Bentine in that way - sprouting hair etc.

Thanks again gents. Ray

no audio Ray? Did you not fancy impersonating the Hawk? Too soon perhaps? I'm sure you could have done a decent Doddy though. There's been a lot of internet imaginings of the Prof's hereafter - walking away from his wheelchair towards the stars for example. I think that one annoyed some disability campaigners. He was an atheist and Doddy was a Christian. All good crazy mixed up fun! You capture it well. See you on the other side one day....well maybe.

Lovely Ray,
Funnily enough Ken Dodd had a mad scientist vibe about him. Kindred spirits?

Suki
