Gang 13

Gang 13

I don’t want to be in your gang

I’m heartsick at the games you play

While I am busy building a life

You are busy taking them away.

I don’t want to be in your gang

I don’t want to maim or kill

Don’t want to sell women’s bodies

Don’t want to poison kids with pills.

I don’t want to be in your gang

So you’ve made my life a living hell

Driven me from the land I love

But I’m alive and live to tell

And one day in the autumn of my years

I know I will hear your death knell

Heed me well

Heed me well

Heed me well!

Thank you to all the people who have commented on this poem - it is based on a real life horror story. Please help to make the UK a real home for people fleeing persecution in their land of birth. Lets use writing to unite us.

Eve, this is a reminder to me of all the women who flee to my country from the sexual assault of gangs who hold so much sway over the power of law in their homelands. The religious right, here as in their supposed home, denies them both refuge and freedom from their forced pregnancies--that's hardly a reverence for the sanctity of life!
