Richard Cory/ By Edwin Arlington Robinson/Translation in Amharic/ሪቻርድ ኮሪ/Alem Hailu
Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.
And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.
And he was rich—yes, richer than a king—
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.
So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

እናየው ነበር::

The translation of literary pieces ls very much demanding.Apart from command on both languages one has to refer interpretations and encyclopaedias to decipher hidden meanings.
The poems could be culture bound.Such translation as well demands literary competence.It is the recreation of a creation.
Putting both poems side by side helps to discuss on the poems.Poems chosen for translation also draws attention towards themselves.
This way people will get a chance to read time-tested poems.
Now, I have readied the translation of 0ver 33 poems by 28 poets across the globe from Britain,Ireland, America and one from Lithuania.
God willing I will have them published getting donors,publishers or otherwise!
I think introducing poets across the ages falls in line with Wol's objective.
Besides people confined to their native language will get a chance to know celebrated poets.
I have innumerable poems of mine in this and other blogs.Thank you
