Last train to Shitsville

Last train to Shitsville

On the last train to Shitsville

fake leopard skin sneakers

a flat cap (fucking hell!)

girls on the way back

playing clips from

their mint concert

on limited digital camera

phones

“Remember that, kid?”

Last chance to get off.

but I’m on the last train

“Don’t be mean”

invisible muttering

Orange light streaks

collide with silver-shred

tangled shots

of young & lovely

loud, laughing mouthful

perfect, cloud-teeth

falling into

aisles of reality

“We need to be moving”

it’s still mental-land

in Shitsville

or what they call normal

the fuckers.

Giggling girls

shout and gambol

“will you get off…”

If only I could

no more stations but this one

last train to Shitsville.

Hi Paul, are you a fan of The Fall by any chance? Great stuff, all the best for 2010 Jeff

Just catching up on your back catalogue Paul, this is one of the best, have you considered entering it in next year's "A Song for Bolton". Loved the sound track, the reading, the lyrics and the sentiment.

Just realising that I can hear some poems on WOL, and thinking of reading some of mine out loud on here (though I sound a bit like the queen) and listened to this. WoW! Really exciting! Quite scary too. But then I'm more of a first train (or bus) person I guess!

Still think the girls could be 'gambling...' on whether the boy will stay on the bus...and what they have to put down to make the bet,

I remember the tension of whether to stay on and have a fruitless long walk home...maybe it's just me?

I think that's the magic of a good poem...we could all be in there.

Me? I'm enjoying a glass of wine...and your lovely poem...again.

: )

You know me Francine - it's never too early for a glass of wine! x
Sorry Paul - I shouldn't hijack your poem for a bit of fun. The poem does lighten you up though - an amusing read - we've all been there.

Isobel!
Tu es trop marrante!
If it weren't too early - I'd drink a bottle of Merlot with you!

Then maybe that's your limited edition phone, Francine and those are my leopard skin sneakers...

This seems a bit surreal.
I have been on this train... many times before.

Just the best Paul
Loved it.
Love all the distortion and confusion.
would be good to rig the sound fx into PA on an open mic event, a live train station set-up.

You could use a korg sampler etc into the mixing desk.

brilliant.

Dirty old man. I think you should get off. You are too good for Shitsville.

Absolutely brilliant Paul, a sad indictment on today's youth and the vacuousness and hopelessness of their lives, skillfully juxtaposed with references from the hopeful sixties. Bit bloody miserable though.
