The Finale
The Finale
Does fear lie behind the thought of death
or is there a semblance of hope inter mingled
Are we to look forward and not back
or to some imaginings of a new life
We move closer to it everday
age manifests its imminence
To reflect over a life spent
to celebrate or lament
Past wrong doings are drenched with regret
a failure to love or be loved
The mind holds sepia pictures
of days, months and years past
Those we have loved, departed or present
are held in the sanctuary of the heart
Farewells will be tearful and profoundly felt
are we to be together again...so much unknowing
Pride and conceit will take a mighty fall
prejudice and fear fall as castles of ruin
Joy and love buoy the soul
yet fear simmers beneath the surface
Each morning could be the final day
the last breath with obituary already written
A prayer, perhaps, to pave the way
to the promise of an eternal rest
