'Cafe Blues / space cowboy poem' by Damon Blackery is Poem of the Week
Cafe Blues / space cowboy poem by Damon Blackery is Write Out Loud's Poem of the Week. Congratulations to Damon who, aside from his poetry, is a man of few and considered words: "My art is about my feeling. If you like it then thanks, If you don't that's fine too. Have a good day." He did divulge to Write Out Loud that his favourite poets are Virginia Woolf and Edgar Allan Poe and.he has been writing poetry since the age of 15 at the suggestion of a teacher who recognised the poetry of the song lyrics he was coming up with. He isn't a poetry performer and doesn't go to open mic events, but he does have an interesting selection of other poems published right here on Write Out Loud.
CAFE BLUES / SPACE COWBOY POEM
by Damon Blackery
Somewhere in this I lost a piece of me
It's uncanny how I love you
We've been eating blood-soaked candy
Walking in the rain talking about her coffee obsession
When I realized the consequences of my actions
I shouldn't imagine you being there when you're not
The comfort of being content is a midlife crisis
I wish I had one more night with you
Playing in the rain watching our fears drift away
I miss when we were happy in each other's arms
We were naked in our bed dreaming of brighter things
We were suffocating on our own kisses
I'm just a boy with cafe blues now two tables over writing poems about you

Congratulations on getting POTW, Damon. I'm sure this is a song by now... such a clever last line.
