Broken Wings
What light can be shone that blinds what you’ve lost?
What rush justifies value at such a great cost?
You sit still for so long smiling through distant dreams,
Can memories relived really cloak lives ripped apart at the seams?
Your kids feel the hurt raised in the care of another,
To my eyes you made choices - you failed as a mother,
Do you see it as different? What’s in your view?
Are you running, forgetting, starting anew?
I try and imagine how impossibly pretty the flame
How bright it must burn to blind from your blame
How hypnotic and addictive it’s noose driven hold
What can you gain? What drives you to destroy your own fold
Your high sees you fly, you must like the thin air,
You push away, none can stay, you just don’t need to care,
You chose your poison - Is selfishness the cause or effect,
Your poison now leads you, a dance of constant neglect.
