Would you pole dance for a friend?

entry picture

Organising a Hen Do is a big responsibility

Imagine my consternation when the task fell to me

Male strippers? Mud racing? A restaurant? A spa?

Not enough dosh for Barcelona or anywhere that far

Then one day browsing Facebook, I come across by chance

A special Hen Do offer – beauty session with pole dance.

Of course the thought of pole dancing makes me quake in fear

But it’s not for me: it’s for the bride-to-be – and she’d love that idea.

I ask our mutual girlfriends, they answer with one voice:

Oh yes! She’d love that kind of thing! What a perfect choice!

Let’s get together and take her to a pole dancing lesson

Then have fun getting our nails done in the beauty session.

So the date is picked and the venue fixed, then things begin to stall.

“It’s not for me!” “I’ve hurt my knee!” “I can’t make it after all…”

Look, we all know dancing isn’t everyone’s  cup of tea

But what we do won’t matter – it’s for the bride-to-be.

So we find ourselves at dance school one summer’s weekend morn

Much reduced in number, but no need to be forlorn

We know we’re amongst real friends who won’t judge anyone,

We’re here to see the bride-to-be feels cherished and has fun

I even bought new shorts for this especially, in the sale

And in my shorts and skimpy top, I look like a beached whale

And we slide and slip and hop and trip and giggle as we go

And the bride-to-be nails every move and dances like a pro

So to my great surprise I’ve learned that pole dance can be fun

And organising hen dos, we can’t please everyone.

The shorts have come in handy in this hot summer weather

And the bride-to-be has memories that she’ll treasure forever.

"Woman Tonight" by Felt.

______

Brutally honest, funny to read, and true poetry in its form and our presence.?

Sorry I'm a bit late in thanking everyone for their lovely comments! Brian, skimpier than shorts would be very hard for me to imagine - already the shorts were a very big step outside my comfort zone, as my last 2 poems have suggested...

A very sensible suggestion Brian. Would you go for the tight-like version to hold everything together, or the baggy-like version to give things freedom to meld easily round the pole?

We don't have a pole-dancing clinic here to advise as PDFM (pole dancing for men) has not yet taken off in our country, however, I'm prepared to lead the way. Can't make a fool of myself in the wrong sort of attire though

Beached whale? Don't destroy my picture of you......

Most people might be surprised at the choice of shorts for pole dancing, expecting something more skimpy...but not me. Very sensible choice for a beginner and will prevent chafing in a sensitive area.

And I'm sure you don't look like a beached whale Becky.
