The Bright side
Today is the 72nd Independence day of India. One day I was thinking how the soul of freedom fighters would feel when they look at India from sky. Is this the country what they ever had dreamed for. Then I saw my reflection in the mirror, a common Indian girl dressed up in the cloth of her choice , outlined with the kohl of dreams in her eyes , with heart free to travel and live life on her own terms and conditions. A thought stroked my mind yes the time is not as bad as portrayed in media for women. In fact time was never ever so favorable for a woman to choose education, career, attire of her choice like now it is. I am writing this article throwing light to the brighter side of our 72nd independence day.
Nowadays, people are welcoming female child with open heart. There is sharp rise in women's enrollment for higher education, graduates, literacy and of course the women entrepreneurs in past few years. 8 million women have started or are running their business in India out of the total 126 million of global female entrepreneurs. 73% of them are reporting revenue of 1 million for a financial year. Reduction in gender discrimination at workplace. More opportunities for women to become independence. Logon to any job portal and check yourself the welcoming attitude towards female employees for joining the workforce. 30% of women are at senior designation in India. Every women's day I can sense the envy of male colleagues citing why don't they have "Men's day celebration" as grand as women's day. Women are rocking every competitive examination. Women are having the power of choice and freedom to speak better than what they had in past. People are speaking up against the crime, media is more vocal and highlighting the injustice. Yes we hear more criminal cases but the voice is now raised higher to punish culprit and give life with dignity to women. People are raising voice for topics which were social taboo for past few years like menstrual hygiene not just for urban women but also for the rural part of India. We are more vocal and aware today than what we were in the past.
We are 21st century women with smartphones in hand, dreams in our eyes, ambition in heart and freedom of our choices. Miles we had crossed and miles to go ahead.
With this ray of hope amidst all the chaos wish you all a very happy independence day.
