Bonfires (Part 2 of Wonder and Worry)
Staring at the dregs of her glass,
wondering whether the world will change
like the little girl said.
The woman thinks about what she said.
The girl has proven to be a knowledgeable
person, wiser than most of the people her age and
above.
But what will it take?
The woman is a lowly photographer
for the local paper.
She only took the photos at this meeting.
But she was also the one that the girl spoke to.
The one she’d talked to about all of this.
This must mean something, she though,
why else would she have chosen me?
And then it hit her in the face.
Photography.
PHOTOGRAPHY!
That was her job,
after all.
If you knew the people nowadays,
they liked to look at the pictures
and not read the words.
She could team up with the editor
and she and her could write a mind-blowing
piece on hunger.
And shootings.
And pollution.
And everything.
EVERYTHING!
The small girl had really opened her mind.
But would she be able to publish it?
She would find a way.
If she had to go against everything and everyone,
she would do it.
So she left a bill on the table and
shot off for the office to find her editor.
———————————————————
The girl opened the paper.
Her name stood out at her.
She gasped.
She read on.
This was her story.
Her cause.
The one that she’d told the photographer lady about.
She eagerly turned on her phone.
The headlines blared.
LOCAL GIRL, PHOTOGRAPHER, AND EDITOR
TEAM UP TO TELL THE COUNTRY ABOUT
WORLD AND LOCAL ISSUES!
She yelped in surprise.
They did it!
Now someone would know.
And they’d tell more people
until everybody knew.
A small fire could burn bright
and make a huge bonfire.
