The Woods
The Woods
I be like a forest,
My greens and browns -
My leaves and bark for cover,
But beneath the foliage,
Beneath the canopy
That sunlight flickers as you
Toe a track that’s scarred,
There is another universe;
A universe of stars.
Each leaf declares its own
Within a fractal,
Does not deny its roots,
Gains nourishment from all
That fall – foraged on
A shadowed floor
As natures course;
Revealing policies of truth.
Many Giants come and
Go this way, yet never stray from
Paths so worn, never venture glades
So full of multitudes,
Never have courage to explore.
Better stay on open ground
Before the woods my friend,
Forget the bracken thorns and thistle,
For break of escaping own
Reality of lies,
Might just,
Give back,
Your life!

I've read this one a few times trying to get to grips with its meaning. I like it cos it feels like a very different path for you. To me, it seems you are saying, that if you look for an easy route in life you won't really engage, encounter reality, truth or be absorbed into a meaningful cycle. Sometimes all of the above coexists with trial, hardship and imperfection. It is through our difficult experiences that we learn to truly understand and to appreciate the good things in life. Does any of that make sense?
