Thin ice
A girl is trapped on a lake
that has been frozen over.
The ice is thin,
and shatters easily.
The ice all around her is broken into pieces
and cracked so much that it was hard to find
the way they fit together.
The girl balances precariously
on a small piece of unbroken ice.
But if the piece breaks,
she either dies by her own hand
or falls into to abyss of insanity.
She’s still there,
for now.
She has not broken the ice yet.
But she will soon.
Because she can’t take the pain
of living in a world of more than
7 billion people,
and no one knows her
for who she is.
Nor will anyone.
She is alone in her agony,
and living through each day is a struggle.
She doesn’t know when she will snap,
but she knows that it will be soon.
For thin ice cannot hold for long.
Even the strongest of pieces will break sometime.
