Life in a Care home
I wonder round my care home rooms,
Where death round every corner looms.
I wonder who is going to be next,
We sit and wait sad and vexed.
In the long voyage we call life,
I was once a mother and a wife,
My yesterdays walk with me ,mainly the best,
I frequently forget where I've put the rest.
My big toe frequently makes a hole in my sock,
Unsteady on my feet on my stick I do rock.
Green bananas we do not buy,
Not long to live before we die.
My limbs soon tire,
I've lost my fire.
I know I am not pretty,
I sometimes self-pity.
History is recorded in our brain,
Fades away does not remain.
But memory is a painter,
As the past gets fainter.
Enjoy the masterpiece of today,
Before it suddenly slips away.
Take plenty of exercise but not too much,
Obey your doctor and keep in touch.
Eat sparingly and at regular hours,
Absorb the sunlight as you admire the flowers.
Learn how to live and new things to discover,
Its great to be alive as you lift off your bed cover.
Always be kind to your bed mates as you roam,
Spreading good will and a smile round your care home.
