5 The HIerophant
Now that the Fool has learnt about the spiritual and the locally aspects to the mundane world he will now transcend into learning about traditional values and moral fundamentals aspects of the enlightened way of life. Here he will meet The Hierophant who is very conservative and thoughtful in his ways and who also practises a traditional, spiritual and of course very orthodox way of enlightenment. He is the Hierophant who carries within himself the teachings of ancient wisdom and he holds value to the religious scriptures practiced throughout the ages of existence. With having these traditions set within himself The Hierophant is an extremely steadfast and a very wise individual of untold knowledge to teachings that need to be safe guarded in order for those traditions to be remembered and passed down. The Hierophant is a teacher and a teacher of a very traditional understanding to spirituality and here the Fool will learn the value of such knowledge to this spirituality. Here The Hierophant will teach the Fool the knowledge of ritualistic structure and show him that this traditional structure of a faith which has been built upon the foundations of the Divine. These traditional values are the unshakeable core truth of the enlightened way of life and The Hierophant will show the Fool how to hold true to the traditional values of that which he has come to learn upon his path of enlightenment. The Hierophant is a spiritual master who possesses great knowledge of the Divine and of the traditional ritualist structure of faith and he provides that knowledge to those who are willing to listen and learn. The Hierophant understands the scriptures of old and he has the awareness of his intuitive self to understand the languages in which these scriptures are written in. Here the Fool will also learn that there are certain boundaries within the enlightened way of life that are set and he will have to find where those boundaries are within himself in order to ascend further upon his path.
Here the Hierophant will show The Fool a comfort within the solitude of the Divine and here he will begin to master this Divine by opening his mind to this world so that he may find a better understanding to the mundane world. The Fool will learn to be a Hierophant of the traditional ways and he knows the value of such a thing goes beyond measure. Having the Knowledge of the Divine realms will teach the Fool that he has a certain responsibility towards the upkeep of their traditions and must learn to hold true to the secrets and the wisdom that has been passed down to him by the way of the Hierophant. The Hierophant is about learning traditions and holding onto the old ways to building a strong spiritual foundation within the mundane world first before you can begin to build anything else.
Interpretation: The Hierophant brings the teachings of traditional values and moral development to the seeker. Now is the time to heed traditional wisdom and perhaps consult an expert for professional advice to your situation. Perhaps it is time to open up your eyes and see things for the way they can be rather than the way they are. This card appears in a reading to tell the seeker that they are in need of gaining some kind of higher knowledge before they continue down an uncertain path. The Hierophant tells the seeker that there is something far more deeper to the situation than meets the mundane eyes and it is time to go in search for whatever it is that is need to learn.
This card is also about practicing traditional values within one’s life and perhaps it is time to let go of the obscurities of your life and find a more traditional middle ground.
This card could also be telling the seeker that they are or must become the teachers in order to teach this traditional values to those who are looking in from the outside. Even if these traditional values are only practiced in your everyday lifestyle which will shows those around them who they truly are. This card tells the seeker that they should be proficient with knowledgeable courage and with honourable orthodox teachings perhaps it is time to give that knowledge to others to build them up.
This card also tells the seeker that their foundations are deep rooted and who they are has very strong religious values profoundly set in their life, which could be a good example to those around them. They hold true to who they are and stand firm upon their foundations that has been set, holding onto their traditional values. The Hierophant shows a strong need to understand something that goes beyond the physical and ventures more into the spiritual and by understanding this knowledge one can teach the unknown wisdom so that others may have a better understanding of religion and faith.
If anything this card warns the seeker than they must not stray away from their traditions just yet and that they need to rely on their intuitive self in order to deal with any situation.
This card could also indicates a very strong belief that may be holding you back or perhaps could be what is keeping you balanced. You need to evaluate the situation and where you are in life to determine which one it may be. Whatever the situation is this card shows that there are things in your life that has been coming for a very long time and it may be hard to let go of it. The Hierophant also indicates a desire to hold onto old thoughts and old ways even if they are outdated. There is a concern for traditional over practical practice that could be misinterpreted by those who don’t understand you, so you should make it very clear of who you are from the very beginning. Perhaps you are feeling captured in servitude and you are being too inactive and fearful towards the situation due to the fact that you follow a very traditional way of life. That doesn’t mean it is a bad thing, it just means that you may feel there is room to grow and perhaps you should expand your mind a little in order to move forward by learning new things but still holding onto the old.
If the question is of a romantic nature the Hierophant indicates a platonic or very traditional relationship. perhaps this card warns the seeker also not to be to so strong headed in a romantic situation and maybe it is time to open up your heat a little more and give into new ideas. This card also shows inactivity and possibly the feeling of captivity in the seeker life. There is nothing wrong in holding on to the old but just remember there is always room for the new and exciting experiences and as well as adventures.
