Autumn Absolutely
I ambled down a winding country lane on a crisp October morn
Light on my feet and in the world without a single care
The mist hovered gently above the solitary fields
A robin flew tentatively by soaring on a wing and a prayer
The trees swayed in rhythm dancing in the brisk breeze
On the hazy horizon the sun rose from its slumber lair
Bursting through the heavens to light up the twilight sky
As I drank in the fresh bracing invigorating air
A swarm of starlings put on an acrobatic aerial display
Performing magnificent feats before my eyes in awe
A rare red squirrel darted deftly across my meandering path
Scurrying up a giant oak with an acorn firmly in its jaw
I entered the woods and wadded through a sea of fallen leaves
A kaleidoscope of colour red brown yellow and more
In the distance on a barren hillside a stag stood proud
His flaring nostrils silhouetted across the forest floor
My journey was nearing its ultimate unfortunate end
It leaves me with an emptiness and a sad finality
The memory will ensue and give me warmth and comfort
As I reluctantly get back to everyday life and actual reality
I will soldier on resolutely for you Autumn absolutely
