The Mayor Stands
The following poem is based on the eloquent speech of Sadiq Khan and where it took place following the Westminster Bridge atrocity.
The Mayor Stands
And so the mayor stands hands clasped together
in the cold June weather by City Office. Coffers up
visible unequivocal condemnation of those from his
ancestral land attired in western clothes who hired
a self-drive van sharpened foot long knives whose
wicked plans handed down death and disabilities
to citizens whose innocence was going about their lives.
And where the mayor stands The Tower commands
his backdrop with majesty pageantry history
where the seditious and haters taken through Traitors
Gate knew what grisly fate awaits at the hands of vicious
judicious executioners used to the capricious whims of their
Queens or kings who despatched the treacherous bands
threatening our motherland. Now, with no-one to catch,
the mayor stands his empty hands snatch grand
soundbites which alight on public ears assuage their nightmares, their
fears their tears of fighting ghosts or parasites infecting this
promised land whose hosts with open arms welcomed these
lost and tortured souls. And so whilst most demand the right
to justice others understand enlightenment often takes years
to reach those stranded in the wasteland.

There are those who seek enlightenment and those who
bring the darkness with them. Politicians allow them
that opportunity and must be held to account when those
who have no such say fall victim to imported wickedness.
