A Walk in the Snow

The breath frosts in front of her face
and she smiles as she walks in the snow,
along a bridge where she slows her pace

To stare in wonder at the star filled sky
The biggest grin pulled wide at the show
Of a brilliant shooting star passing by

The star might be Santa, riding his sleigh
And as she looks up and watches, she can almost hear
The jingle of sleigh bells fading away.

A small drop of snow lights on her nose
others soon follow and cover her clothes
but she's wrapped up warm and cosy and tight
Safe from the chill of the cold Christmas night.

She sets off at pace, that grin still on her face
heading home to a family and a warm fireplace
and in front of it she'll settle, in for the night
and dream of the presents she'll receive
In the Christmas morning light.
