He Sees

He Sees...

...a soft, round arm, reaching out
but doesn't know what its about
...a hand, open, grasping, seeking
but fails to notice the tears, always leaking
...himself join with that arm, content and proud
but ignores her needs, and the gathering storm cloud
...the silken fingers caressing his skin
but he cannot see the girl within
...his hand firmly clasping hers, a lifeline
as he leads and pulls, never following in kind
...her pulling back, begging him to turn
but he just pulls harder, refusing to learn
...her reach out to another, and feels pain
he doesn't like standing alone in the rain
...her hand seeking his, turned away by the other
her love, it seems, threatened to smother
...her hand grasp his, with love and fear
as her feet plant, he is forced to draw near
...her eyes, filled with love and hurt
afraid to trust, waiting for him to revert
...he is an equal, a partner, a wholly new role
leading each other is their new goal
...his own uncertainty on this new ground
and questions his ability, with control renowned
...his own failings, and measures room for growth
he WILL do better, to himself he makes this oath
...his hand on his heart, the other at his side
and wonders, for a moment, if she watched while he cried
...his hands again, both empty and cold
and reaches behind, expecting her to take hold
...naught but the barriers he has erected
to keep others out, to keep all protected
...
Her arm, forgotten in his own self-center
trailed away, and wasn't able to re-enter
It rejoined the scared, lost little girl
that he is unable to see, and was lost in the whirl
...
She sits alone, curled in upon her fears
no one to comfort her or wipe away her tears
So she comforts herself, wiping her own
listening to him call out and search and atone
But she knows that its but her arm that he seeks
and its busy, you see, wiping tears from her cheeks.
