Tonight I will go home and cry

(This piece is inspired by the words of an employee of the Home Office after hearing a story of human trafficking)

I sat straight faced and listened
As the torrent of terror
Tumbled from your throat
And wondered
How do you ever smile?
And how do your bird like eyes glisten?
Your smile is radiant.
I heard your story
And tonight
I will go home and cry.
I am not young or naive
Nor am I impressionable
But your story
Has shaken my humanity
To the core.
The vile truths spilled out of your memory
Via your mouth

Onto my pages.
Until my ears and my mind
Can take no more.
So tonight
I will go home and cry.

a huge thank you for all the encouragement with what is a hugely challenging topic for people to read.I am so grateful to people for taking the time.
I think when we are slamming Govt. functions The DWP, the Home Office etc we often forget that the employees of these dept.s are also suffering - the man who told me off the record he would go home and cry also told me there is no system in place in the Home Office to support staff with the trauma they hear about day in day out. Some of the home office staff are in their teens and twenties like my children, this is inhumane treatment of the asylum seekers and the staff of these depts.I don't want their stories to be lost - they all deserve a voice. Thanks again....I post funny stuff too so stay tuned

I don't want my intentions to be misconstrued, but I've been poking in on your poetry because from what I've seen so far - they always offer a raw depiction of some topic that is unheard of for most folks or just plain ignored.

That is a talent that should be recognized and lauded. It's a great thing what you're doing with your words to bring recognition and acknowledgement, even if for a moment.
