incantation
The awful Eve within me lights her fire
Puts all my ease and comfort on the pyre.
A hateful Harpy zooms out of my head
She takes command, she rolls me in my bed.
I toast the ancient goddess - love and lust
I let my good name fall into the dust.
Where has all my well-trained goodness gone?
Just hunger, with your flesh to feed upon.
Excruciating pleasure, let me go
I’m not the woman that I used to know.
Let me find peace, in cooler waters swim.
Find my tranquillity again, but without him.
I dance around the flagstones casting spells
I dance to heathen music, drums and bells.
Now all that’s left of me -
The skull beneath the skin,
the claw inside the velvet hand.
At last the hellcat in me’s free
As I rip off your wedding band.

Hi Ann - picking up where we left off - Botany & Foal are both very good indeed, but Coromandel makes me cry every time I read it - for me, it's perfect. B
