I once knew a guy you'd never call shy

From the way that he acted and dressed;

Then there was this gal who was more than a pal,

By nature most generously blessed.

I'd buy her a drink and she'd say with a wink -

"I've been called the worst things by the best".

 

Just be the one you have to be

Despite what others might say,

And believe you me you're bound to see

There is no other way.

 

My dad was a cop - never aimed for the top

But he knew how to make an arrest;

Never went for his gun and he used to say

"Son...I've been called the worst things by the best -

 

And if you set your face on that number one place...

If you think that there's nowhere but first,

It's as sure as the day you'll be able to say

"I've been called the best things by the worst!"
