Ye Madcaps Of England
England is Britain's last colony
But we English are an awkward lot
We like to make our own decisions
And not delegate to Westminster
Or to the EU. When we watch our
Politicians prevaricate when we've
Told them exactly what to do:
Leave the EU! Then our long fuse
Starts to burn ever-so slowly
And our long memories surface too.
The first country in Europe
To execute a king for treason
On January 30 1649
Charles I was beheaded
In London.
Our minnow-politicians
Would do well to remember
Charles' fate.
Before it's too late.

Ah...a timely voice for the English. We are a patient breed but
do not take kindly to being deceived or talked down to by those
given power over us. It is probably right to presume that the overwhelming vote to leave the EU (Brexit) came from the shires
of England, with added support from sympathetic factions elsewhere
in the UK. The metropolitan zones are comprised of many different
sorts without the same origins and obdurate resistance to being
taken for a ride to a disguised destination in the hands of others. Once, I wrote to
Kenneth Clarke MP - well known EU advocate, reminding him of the words of
Gilbert Keith Chesterton: "We are the English people and we haven't spoken yet...".
And that was many years before the
recent referendum.
