SHOAL
I kept filling the gaps
with fish but still
the water came through
until there was no deep
left deep enough
no fish large enough
to fill my fish mouth
with water.

I appreciate the gag, David..
One of my dad's favorite lines is "stop talking about me"--he obviously brought me up to appreciate fine comedy ;
(Please pardon the intrusion--it must've been the mood last night)

I sense a proverb in the undercurrent, but dare not disturb this by probing--it's quite the little piece to admire without adding a single word.

Thanks Rachel - there was no underlying idea other than identifying with the theme, but it's good when you get thoughts about a poem that may add body to it. Glad you liked it.
Ok David, that's a thought! An intrusive mood is ok by me Rachel.
Thanks for stopping by and liking Steve, Jennifer, Jon, Whiskey, Heart of Lead and Dorothy.
