Zebrina's life is compact; her growth

stilted by the confines of a darkened room,

restricted by shades in variable hues.

Fine hairs on blue- veined hands slightly raised

in the uncertainty of artificial warmth,

 

Unstretched arms yearn the freedom

of the branches on a monkey puzzle tree,

venturing out in new directions towards a sunlight's beams.

Fleeting journeys, never reaching a destination

before wandering off on another.

 

A tenuous life needing minimal care

and a multitude of considerations,

travelling as far and wide

as her foster parents' will allow.
