I Cannot Hate You
These heavy chains were filled with rust,
Internal corruption breathed poison,
And now I watch a year turn to dust,
I stand at the edge, but you’re gone
You claim, you blame, you put it on me
My unhappiness I tried to change,
You do not love anymore, I see
Retrospect and hindsight feels strange
You claimed we were strong despite protest,
Such tainted beauty leaves me cold,
Were all my tears simply a waste?
We laid our cards, but both must fold
You want me to hate you, to be angry,
I admit, you nearly succeeded here,
My anger flashed, I could not see,
Words tumbled, stained by ink and tear
You will walk away claiming innocence,
You were manipulative and I was toxic
All I can do is wish you happiness
May we put to rest all that is chaotic
Yes I wanted more than you could give,
But of what I received I never asked,
Our ending I willingly can forgive
I am free to be myself at last
I’m happier now, freed from guilt,
But not because of your doing,
I’ll walk alone, and no longer wilt,
I hope she likes the diamond ring

Few people can put words together so powerfully. Few people can put their heart on a page so flawlessly. Really touched me.
