Can you bank on Winston?

entry picture

A little peep into Britains history......

 Can You bank on Winston?

Mrs Fry

Why, oh, why

Has Winston Churchill made you cry?

On our fivers you appeared serene

Smiling back to back with the queen.

Until dubious Churchill usurped your spot,

Got civil rights activists angry and hot.

Now you’re a woman with a spotless reputation

Held up as a shining light of the nation.

To have you replaced by such a man

Whose beliefs mirror those of the Klu Klux Clan,

Is a sad indictment of our country

One could question the Bank of England’s effrontery.

Whilst you did good all of your life

Churchill’s fame is based on lies.

His radio speeches were Norman Shelley

What a pity at the time there was no telly.

He stole his “on the beaches speech”

From Robert Emmet, what a plaigerous leech.

His writing got him a Nobel prize,

His 3 ghost writers were very surprised.

As an artist he committed the ultimate sin,

Forging works by Charles Maurin,

To fund his drink habit and keep his home,

Churchill’s misdemeanours would fill a tome.

His genocide started 1897 Afghanistan,

Where he gleefully murdered many tribesmen,

He burnt crops and villages, filled up wells,

Made the life of Afghani’s a living hell.

Close to home he waged war on the Irish,

Via the evil “Black and Tans”,

Who indiscriminately brutalized,

Child, woman and man.

In Wales in Tonny Pandy,

He got soldiers to fire on the crowds,

Who had supported the starving miners,

By voicing their protests outloud.

He ordered the British Army

To fire on Greek folk,

On the streets of Athens

The death toll really was no joke.

Winston had British soldiers steal India’s rice

To sell in the Middle East for a very low price,

4 million Indian people starved in Bengal state

Whilst Churchill quaffed champagne

And made out he was great.

Then he forcibly “borrowed” India’s money

To finance the second world war,

As a human being Mr Churchill

 Was rotten to the core.

And then...

Churchill stole Iranian oil,

And revelling in his autocracy,

Levied illegal taxes on Iran,

Then overthrew her democracy!

In Iraq he deliberately bombed the civilian population,

Advocated unleashing poison gas on the entire Iraqi nation!

He wrecked mayhem in South Africa,

Kenya and Pakistan,

Dominating the world with British Ayrians,

Was his avowed and fascist plan.

Churchill despised socialism,

Equality and democracy,

Believed in the power of money

Had no time for meritocracy.

So Mrs Fry,

My oh my

Winston Churchill has made me cry,

For this murderous monster

To be named “greatest Brit”,

Makes me want to

 Swear and spit.

I’m ashamed to be British,

See us through the world’s eyes,

As a country whose history

Is based on cruelty and lies.

Eve. Thankyou for this. You sent me researching on this 'great' man and found this:

The actor Richard Burton, when preparing for his role as Churchill in a television drama, famously wrote for the New York Times:

In the course of preparing myself . . . I realized afresh that I hate Churchill and all of his kind. I hate them virulently. They have stalked down the corridors of endless power all through history. . . . What man of sanity would say on hearing of the atrocities committed by the Japanese against British and Anzac prisoners of war, “We shall wipe them out, every one of them, men, women, and children. There shall not be a Japanese left on the face of the earth”? Such simple-minded cravings for revenge leave me with a horrified but reluctant awe for such single-minded and merciless ferocity.

For this iconoclasm, Burton was barred from future work at the BBC, accused of having “acted in an unprofessional way” and evidently regarded as having committed treason. Yet his query touched on something about Churchill that has often embarrassed British sensibilities, so that it is generally not talked about: his gung-ho fondness for imperial slaughter. Everywhere one looks, one finds Churchill dripping blood from his mouth. He was fanatical about violence.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and feedback on this piece. It is a huge pity we can't bring back the figures in history who have shaped our nation and "interview" them.....particularly those who are controversial. I found myself saddened by my research into Winston Churchill, to discover heroic figures have feet of clay is quite devastating. At the moment the world needs a few superheros....

Well he's not here to defend himself...so that's all good.
