Welcome Home Curly Wurly
When the BBC asked Bristol performance poet David Johnson to write a poem at very short notice indeed, he was delighted to be able to do so, because the poem is to honour the return home to Bath of Olympic Gold medal winner, Amy Williams.
Just a fortnight ago, 27-year old Amy, known as Curly Wurly because of her frizzy hair, took a mere 54 seconds to secure a Gold medal for Great Britain in the bob skeleton event at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. She is the first Briton to win an individual Olympic gold since Robin Cousins won 30 years ago – certainly an event to celebrate.
“It’s amazing to do this for my country” said Amy, “I had nothing to lose here and I just went for it. I enjoyed every minute”
