They’d been a romantic item

for really quite a time.

They’d met one night in April

when he’d been fishing on a line.

They’d started with a struggle,

arguing over a tasty fish.

And it had really burst his bubble

when he saw she was such a dish!

He takes her down the local pub

where there is no mermaid ban

and all his friends and cronies

think he is a lucky man.

And one night he decided

that the time had come to pass

to make her an honest mermaid

cos she’s such a lovely lass!

He’s got the ring all ready

and his down-on-the-knee speech.

He’s glad that such a creature

is not quite out of his reach.

He carries her up to the bar,

they are such a lovely pair

the handsome local fisherman

and his mermaid girl so fair.

But he really blew it

and lost the pleasure of her lips

when he ordered scampi

followed by fish and chips!
