Catering for Phone Addicts. Stupid

Catering for Phone Addicts. Stupid

We've decided to cater for phone addicts

(By trialling new technology)

For those who move zombie-like, strolling

Not a care or a thought 'bout safety

Whenever they come to the traffic lights

We can't expect them to raise eyes

Look up and decide when it's safe to

Cross over, not meet their demise

So we're burying traffic lights in the pavement

No need to look up, raise their eyes

To the traffic lights placed there to help them

But keep looking down texting 'Hi's'

Stupid.

The technology's not cheap, it's expensive

Surely education is a better type of spend?

Than encouraging bad behaviour of addicts

To me, society's not on the mend

Jason

This is an interesting comment which I took as clever black humour:

'let natural selection sort it out'

Natural selection will knock out (by running them over) all the stupid phone-look-downers leaving the sensible look-upperers (like us). Natural selection at work. A variation of 'survival of the fittest'?.....

I'm reminded of a poem called "Stupidity Street" in an old anthology.
If it were to be written today, these devices and their disciples would
surely feature!

Ok, I will admit I didn't see the news report and actually, now I've seen it and realise that they're actually talking about kids, I take back the comment about natural selection. Kids are kids, not yet fully formed and educated adults, so that was a bit harsh.
But seriously, are we getting to the stage as a species where we have to put traffic lights on the ground to stop people being run over because they can't tear their eyes away from a screen as they walk?
I fear for our future, I really do.

So biased! Shame!
Though phone's not named,
An addiction still,
Is an ill.

Wow. Well, I thought this was a jokey type of a poem until I saw the news item! Deary me.

I honestly don't know why there aren't more people with broken noses tbh - I'd be over in a second if I walked along looking at my phone like that!

I genuinely cannot believe my eyes, I absolutely despair of this madness. Remove the pavement lights, tell that it's dangerous to try and cross the road without looking and only a complete idiot would do it, then let natural selection sort it out.
