Skylight
One night in Seattle
listening to the blues
dancing with my friends
nothing much to lose
I'm not much for scripture
but saw a heavenly site
danced my way over
asked her if we might
she look me up and down
seemed to think it over
I'm not looking for love she said
but sure could use a lover
We danced until they called last call
the band packed up their gear
walking back through empty streets
the full moon shone so near.
looked up through the skylights
the night was getting on
she said, "I have to leave "
"I never stay till dawn. "
I went out the very next night
the stars were in my eyes
went back to the same dive bar
hoping she would pass by.
The place was nearly empty
no dancers on the floor.
had myself a beer or two
and headed out the door.
I fall in love too easy
especially at night
when the moon is shining clear
and the music just feels right
I know I'll keep on looking
for the one that chooses me
when the skylight holds the noonday sun
we'll know it's meant to be
Living loving losing
singing dancing boozing
you don't always have a choice
but sometimes find a way

Hey Adam? I didn't fall asleep. Not even a yawn. OK it was long and by my own definition my head should have been on the keyboard at verse four.
So what magically made me question my whole beliefs about long poems?
Simple. I was hooked from the beginning. 'Twas like a TV soapy. What happens next? Second: the rhyme and lilting carried me along
Third: It pleased my simple mind. i.e. I didn't have to think.
Well done my friend.....?
