Sorry for the typos, the grammar and the rhyme

I wasn't really feeling me, I haven't for some time

I don't know when it happened

It was many wounds ago

I'm feeling rather sad now

I think it's time to go

The world is full of kindness

For those that know to play

But the rules seem to allude me

I'd like to see them one day

But I can't wait for that

I'm a very busy man

I have to catch the next bus

That will take me from this plan

I'm grateful to the people

That didn't scream and shout

The ones that made a difference

The ones others talk about

I was once a believer

But doubts got in the way

It's easier to be a misanthrope

To get through day by day

So as I end this awful time

I reflect upon the past

Life is for the living

But without hope it will not last

Hope is just a state of mind

And mine has all but gone

Maybe I have a little left

Can I carry on?

I see their smiles, their sparking eyes

The confidence they bring

The grads are really something

Changes need to ring

I can't compete

I'm incomplete

A failure to the end

I lost all hope

I feel a dope

It was me, not you my friend

Thanks Ruth, that made me smile. I must be projecting my internal dichotomy again ?

Thanks for your comment afishamongmany. First poem I've written in a while (30 years!), the last being about the joy of finding a new love. Time changes perspective, but there is always hope ?

Welcome to WOL Bon Darcy - Despite its despondency your poem is a good read. It.has a lilt and a rhythmic vigour to it. Don't give up hope. There is hope that will be fully fulfilled.
Go well
