Elusive Old Friend
Our elusive old friend came to visit today
It's not for so long as perhaps too cold to play
But he's out there right now with his head in a cloud
When we saw he was coming we almost shouted out loud
For he seldom is seen quite so much before spring
When the birds get all frisky and in courtship do sing
On the deep grey days of winter he's reluctant to show
But odd times that he does his face is aglow
Late afternoon is the time when he shrinks
Back to his horizon bed for a great many winks
When visiting some other places it's true
That he may stay much longer and enjoy the view
But most folk will smile when he does come to call
Then maybe get sad as parts from us all
So distant he seems when he passes on by
And yet his warmth is addictive for those who are not shy
They linger below his gaze for some time
Their skins are so very much bronzer than mine
For much as I care to feel that he's there
To lie in the sun is too much for me to bear
A cold world it would be if he never came back
No heaters can match him so he's safe from the sack
Lets all cheer and smile now as he comes by our way
For old Mr Sun truly does make our day

I don't know if it's the current season, but this one I felt in my slowly thawing bones! I admire how you rhyme because that's not something that comes naturally to me and you've made it look so easy here! It's hard to pick a favorite verse, but if I had to, it would be the first one. Really nicely written. Love it.
