A Web of Deceit
A Web of Deceit
A transparent woven membrane
partially concealed in a corner of the room
Barely noticeable and constructed with no warning
its architect lay concealed and out of sight
It was a trap of indiscriminate stealth
as the faintest movement alerted the predator
Nothing was spared, no prisoners were taken
the architect devoured all who came his way
Moths and butterflies captured in a frenzy
blue bottles and mosquitos quickly dispatched
The trap was á la carte in its appetite
or so it seemed to the naked eye
Some insects were a delicacy of taste
others the icing on the cake
Not one was rejected or set free
even their remains were for afternoon tea
The predator moved with speed and voracity
he gradually grew as he consumed with rapidity
He lived in darkness and was barely visible
with no sign or sound to betray his malign presence

Great writing. have always been fascinated/repelled by spiders whose webs are such incredible constructions. There' s a big black one in a corner of my garage, that makes cones, not webs. I have asked him for a truce - I won't disturb him as long as he doesn't jump out at me. It has worked up to now.
