PASSING THROUGH
The occupants of Parliament now think it's a place they own,
Not understanding they're temporary custodians of what has slowly grown
Into the rich repository of a trusting nation's history,
That governs in the people's name (that's never been a mystery!).
Instead, without a mandate (that's permission!) from the nation,
They signed away what wasn't theirs to foreign domination,
Parliamentary sovereignty, trade and laws by which we live...
In short, the things we sought and won - that were not theirs to give!
And when the pressure of circumstance required a referendum
They sought to misuse and abuse it by introducing the addendum
That claims that "parliamentary sovereignty" upon which they now dote
Allows them to say we did not "understand" the reason for our vote.
In short, the game that they now play relies on what they gave away,

Brian - point taken. I have to agree. But for the purpose of this
blog, it seemed appropriate to emphasise that they had the chance
to change their ways and blatantly passed it up for proprietorial reasons of their own.
