Take one pair of Googly eyes (those plastic eyes you get from craft shops, that, if you're such-way inclined may be snuggled down the back of the sofa, lost and looking for love, or at the bottom of a rucksack with the forlorn pennies and forgotten fizzwizz).

Obtain one object from the room you're currently in, something that doesn't already have eyes (e.g. mushroom, chair, remote control, cup. Not the cat.)

Attach eyes. (Alternatively, draw some on with a pen, or at worst, imagine them, but imagine them really well.)

Now create some personal details for your new freind.

What is she/he scared of?
Who is her best friend?
How many languages can she speak?
Does she like the way she looks?
Did she enjoy school?
Does she get on with her parents?
What secret does she have?
What will she never have?
What is she passionate about?
Who does she hate?

Now write a monologue from his/her point of view.

My Habitat pouffe. She is scared of the cat. Her best friend is the settee. She only speaks fluent stoolpidgeon. She does not like the way she looks. Sadly, she never went to school as there wasn't one at Habitat. She never met her father Terence. Her secret is she watches Bargain Hunt. She is happy that she WILL have a new cover! She doesn't know what she will never have, so she is happy. She is passionate about the cat. She hates the cat - cos the cat is frquently sick on her. Hence new cover (for pouffe not for cat).

I have bought a packet of googly eyes and will report back shortly on how the objects I endow with googly vision respond.
