Distant Recollection
It was all but a distant recollection.
You sat me down and said you wanted a real connection.
I believed you because I wanted to believe that your heart was true.
I remember you reaching out to hold my hand.
I remember your arms reaching to embrace me.
I remember the feeling of warmth when I saw your smile.
It was then I knew you’d be worth my while.
Suddenly it was no longer you but me who was reaching.
Suddenly reaching became chasing, chasing became clinging, clinging onto hope.
Hope that you’d reach again.
And suddenly, in an instant, it all became a distant recollection.
