Spring Eternal
Spring Eternal
On the up, off the downs,
it's always nice to leave the towns
stride across the heath and dale
let the sun remove the pale
of winter that has left us now
Spring in the air, spring in our step
if I stumble some, support me pet,
for summers many came before
and equal winters left joints sore
enough to raise a creak and groan
Yet still the lure of heathers scent
makes all the acheing hours well spent
and when in time more than a stick I need
perchance I'll cast the wilder seed
to bring some country air to town
Then as I rest on sun soaked bench
and fondly think upon you wench
the breeze will fetch memories to the fore
of ramblings we shared and so much more
heralding the past we lived to come again
For though you've long since ceased to be
more than a spirit I keep with me
yet in that sense we still are two,
and share the sun and sky of blue
for all those days that are yet to come....
